A rare case of acute idiopathic colocolic intussusception in an adult patient

2020

Abstract Adult intussusception is a rare condition that is frequently associated with malignancy and requires surgical approach. Symptoms are often non-specific and of subacute or chronic character. Therefore, computerized tomography (CT) scan is the most commonly used modality for identifying adult intussusception. A 51-year-old female presented with a 1-day history of increasing abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasound and CT scan revealed intussusception. Intra-operatively, colocolic intussusception was present and laparoscopically reduced. A lead point was found neither intra-operatively nor in post-operative ileocolonoscopy and resection of involved bowel segments was not necessary.

Ghost cell odontogenic carcinoma: a rare case report and review of literature

2014

Objectives: Ghost cell odontogenic carcinoma is a rare condition characterized by ameloblastic-like islands of epithelial cells with aberrant keratinitation in the form of Ghost cell with varying amounts of dysplastic dentina. Material and Methods: We report a case of a 70 year-old woman with a rapid onset of painful swelling right maxillary tumor. Magnetic resonance showed a huge tumor dependent on the right half of the right hard palate with invasion of the pterygoid process and focally to the second branch of the trigeminal. Radiological stage was T4N0. The patient underwent a right subtotal maxillectomy with clear margins. Adjuvant radiotherapy was given. The patient was free of residua…

A rare case of congenital absence of permanent canines associated with other dental anomalies

2011

Agenesis of permanent canines is a rare condition and that of both maxillary and mandibular permanent canines is extremely rare. Reports of such cases are very scarce in the literature. It may occur either isolated or in association with other dental anomalies. This paper reports an unusual case of agenesis of both the maxillary permanent canines and mandibular right permanent canine occurring in association with congenitally missing mandibular permanent central incisors and microdontic maxillary lateral incisors in a 10 year-old Indian male.

We need to appreciate common synanthropic plants before they become rare: Case study in Latgale (Latvia)

2020

Local ecological knowledge holds great potential in contributing to sustainable resource management and conservation activities. For this reason, the authors choose to analyse an ethnobotanical dataset from the Baltic Sea region by exploring the relationship between plants and humans on the basis of three main categories: habitat characteristics, distribution in the wild and plant sensitivity to human impact beyond physical distance. The study provides empirical evidence of widespread usage of so-called common species which are widely distributed in the territory and benefit from human activity. When considering the data via the intensity of use, based on detailed use-reports (DUR), the mai…

Two-Dimensional Polytypism of “Crystalline” (C5Me5)ReO3

1996

Crystals of Cp*ReO3 present a rare case of two-dimensional polytypism. They consist of a polytypic packing (in the bc plane) of ordered polar chains of three-legged piano-stool Cp*ReO3 molecules (stacked head-to-tail along the a axis). The two-dimensional polytypism arises from the possibility of building a similar motif both with 2-fold screw axes and inversion centers as packing operators, i.e. from the possibility of packing together neighboring chains of equal or different polarity.

Laparoscopic excision of a benign peritoneal cystic mesothelioma

2009

Benign cystic peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare tumor and most commonly occurs in women in the reproductive age group. It is very rare in women of postmenopausal age. We present a rare case of a postmenopausal woman with benign peritoneal cystic mesothelioma removed at laparoscopy.

Anomalous origin of all three coronary arteries from right sinus of Valsalva

2016

AbstractCongenital anomalies of the coronary arteries, although uncommon, have the potential to cause serious myocardial damage, ischemic cardiomyopathy, and sudden cardiac death. We report a rare case of origin of all three coronaries from the right sinus of Valsalva.
